General Conf. 2019!

We took the long trek to Salt Lake City for general conference this year! We were planning on staying home, and I told Derek that's what I wanted to do a few weeks prior, but when my mom called offering tickets we realized it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. I had never been to conference before, and we love any chance we get to spend the weekend with my parents and sisters. We missed Megan and Ezra a lot (they were in Disney World...poor things;)

Derek, Kendall and I drove down together on Friday night after Derek got off work. We passed the time by listening to a wide variety of music (Broadway musicals to country's greatest hits) and stopped at In N' Out for a quick dinner. Derek also brought some fun-size candies he had gotten at work for the drive. He even brought a little 100 Grand bar for me (he knows me so well). We got to my parents' home late to find my mom had picked out new dresses for conference in the morning. (Note: not for Derek.) It was so sweet.

The next morning I got up for a quick Body By Simone workout, and then we all set out for Salt Lake around 7:45. Miraculously, we found a parking spot literally right next to the conference center. I still don't know exactly how that happened.

Once we found our seats, Derek and I took off to scout around and look at the artwork. We took a quick pic with Gordon B. Hinckley.

And reunited with the crew.

It was so fun to be in the conference center for a live session. I was skeptical about the experience, just because conference to me is pajamas and cinnamon rolls and lounging around on the couch. But it was so awesome, and we were able to get the best of both worlds with the rest of the sessions at my parents' house.

We went to Ezra's brother's restaurant in downtown Salt Lake after the morning session and everyone's food was so.yummy. I had zucchini linguini with cherry tomatoes, nuts, mushrooms, all cooked in olive oil sauce. Derek had a BBQ turkey burger with hot habanero cheese on it. I mean, COME ON.

The spiritual outpouring of conference really took it out of us.

After women's session, my mom made the most amazing dinner of tri-tip and roasted veggies. She forgot to grab zucchini and peppers so Derek saved the day and went to pick some up. After dinner, Natalie drove me around and showed me her high school stomping grounds. We stopped to get a drink for Natalie and for my mom and then to Crumbl cookies to get treats for the house. She has friends who work at both places and they both gave us discounts. She is well taken care of. I loved getting to spend some 1:1 time with my baby sis. It doesn't happen enough!

Natalie ran off to go do Sadie Hawkins prep with her friends after that, and me, Derek, Kendall, and my mom played a few rounds of Rummikub to finish off the night.

The next morning, I got up and hung out with my dad for a bit while the house was quiet. When he went to shower, I made a pan of German pancakes and Derek and I made some omelettes. We watched conference all together while eating breakfast, and before we left to make the trek back to Rexburg, my mom packed us the most amazing picnic lunch. She made huge sandwiches for Derek and Kendall, snuck a salad in for me, and gave us snacks galore (coconut dark chocolate bites, almonds, fruit snacks, chips, popcorn, and crackers). My parents treat us so well.

My favorite talk from conference was Elder Vinson's from the Saturday morning session! But I also noticed throughout how much all the speakers talked about intention. I need to do things---especially Gospel things---with full purpose of heart. Such a good reminder.
